How to Choose a Wedding Caterer
Finding, comparing and booking a wedding caterer — questions to ask, tastings and understanding quotes.
If your venue doesn't provide in-house catering, choosing a caterer is one of your most important bookings. A great caterer looks after timing, service and the guest experience as much as the food.
Start with your venue
Check whether your venue has a kitchen, an approved supplier list, restrictions on open flames or a required catering standard. Ask the venue which caterers they love working with.
Compare like with like
Request itemised quotes covering:
- Food per head (adults and children)
- Staff numbers and hours
- Crockery, cutlery, glassware and linen
- Bar service and drinks packages
- Setup, clearing and waste removal
- VAT and service charges
Ask the right questions
- How many weddings do you do on one day?
- Can we have a tasting, and is it included?
- How do you handle allergies and dietary needs?
- Who will be our manager on the day?
- What happens if a staff member is ill?
